Proton Chemie BV is a newly established company which invests in a facility to produce hydrogen and carbon dioxide, and in a pipeline infrastructure for the distribution of that hydrogen and carbon dioxide. The basis for the investment is an existing ammonia plant in Rozenburg, The Netherlands (Europoort) which will be converted into a hydrogen production facility. The existing carbon dioxide removal system creates the opportunity to produce very pure carbon dioxide (CO2), which can be sold to technical and foodgrade markets. The nearby CO2 pipeline towards one of the biggest greenhouse areas in the world (the Westland area) offers the opportunity to sell CO2 for greenhouse application and for other developments, like enhanced oil and gas recovery. Proton Chemie intends to develop a new pipeline for hydrogen from Rozenburg (Rotterdam Port area) towards Beverwijk (area of Amsterdam). Mixing of hydrogen with natural gas for household use is under study. With the full recovery and utilisation of about 90% of all the CO2 produced in the hydrogen plant in Rozenburg, Proton Chemie offers climate neutral hydrogen for various applications.
